Natcap and Aioi R&D Lab-Oxford Launch in Japan to Advance TNFD Adoption and Nature Risk Management

July 31, 2025 – Natcap, the leading provider of nature risk solutions, Aioi R&D Lab-Oxford, the research and development arm of AND-E (Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe Limited), and Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co., Ltd, have officially launched operations in Japan, marking a major milestone in their shared mission of developing innovative solutions to help businesses evaluate, assess, and manage their nature-related risks.

The launch took place in Tokyo on 9 June at the British Embassy and featured speeches from Julia Longbottom CMG, British Ambassador to Japan and the Minister of Environment, Japan. The event brought together more than 100 senior sustainability leaders from Japan’s largest companies across financial services, agri-food, manufacturing, electronics, and trading industries.

A Global Leader in TNFD Adoption

Japan has emerged as a global leader in Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) adoption, with forward-thinking companies and a supportive government placing nature high on the corporate agenda. The cultural commitment to preserving nature, rooted in Japan’s traditions, underpins a shared understanding of the link between biodiversity, business resilience, and long-term growth.

“Doing business in Japan is truly inspiring,” said Sebastian Leape, CEO at Natcap. “In a week of conversations, it has been striking how seriously nature is taken. The science is clear, and Japanese companies and government are moving quietly and steadily in the right direction.”

A Strategic Partnership to Drive Impact

Through a strategic partnership with Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance Co., Ltd. (a member of the MS&AD Insurance Group),  and Aioi R&D Lab-Oxford, the research and development arm of AND-E (Aioi Nissay Dowa Europe), Natcap is well positioned to become Japan’s leading nature risk solution provider. This collaboration enables Natcap to help Japanese companies at every stage of their nature journey, from building the business case and quantifying impacts and risks across value chains to translating strategy into action.

The launch generated strong momentum, sparking active conversations with companies eager to integrate nature into their core strategies. Whether exploring how to get started or advancing established nature programs, Japanese companies are demonstrating their commitment to leading the global nature and biodiversity agenda.
